Thank you for taking the time to read Impact Now newsletters. Each issue highlights some of the challenges facing women leaders in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the positive impact they make as they grow in confidence and skills and step into leadership. Through the newsletter, you’ve been introduced to some remarkable women.

Reading the stories is one way to learn. Another way to learn is to talk directly from the women themselves.

Next Saturday, September 13, 11am-noon EDT, you’ll have that opportunity. Adelphine Angemito and Vivian Bwirabuli will be dialogue partners for Congo Conversation: Women Leading Change. This is a live, one-hour conversation, where you can meet two of DRC’s female leaders and hear their experiences firsthand.

Adelphine and Vivian are Nyota staff, graduates of the Université Chrétienne Bilingue du Congo (UCBC), and women reshaping what leadership looks like in Beni and beyond. They know firsthand the challenges, risks, and opportunities for female leaders in DRC.

It’s been my privilege to know Adelphine and Vivian for more than ten years. I knew them first when they were students at UCBC. For the past six years we have been colleagues. And for the past three years Adelphine and Vivian have been partners on this Nyota journey.

Adelphine and Vivian are also my teachers. Their experience and insight into culture, leadership, and resilience continue to shape how I understand this work of women’s leadership development.

Please join me in conversation with Adelphine and Vivian September 13. You won’t just hear stories.  You’ll be able to learn and connect with these talented and wise women. During this conversation, you’ll be able to—

  • Ask your own questions about leadership, courage, and change in Congo.
  • Talk about the differences and the similarities women leaders face both in Congo and in your own context.
  • Build a direct connection with women guiding Nyota’s work on the ground.

I look forward to seeing you online Saturday, September 13, 11am-noon EDT.

By the way, this newsletter is coming out earlier than usual because I wanted you to know about the Congo Conversation.
