What is your job and what does it involve?
I hold the position of Advanced Studies and International Partnership Coordinator at Congo Initiative—Université Chrétienne Bilingue du Congo. In this role, I am responsible for building and nurturing international partnerships, overseeing financial management, preparing grant reports, and ensuring sustainability actions for the Advanced Studies and International Partnership Program. I work with a team of dedicated individuals and liaise with international partners and grantors to align their interests with Congo Initiative’s mission. I’m drawn to this work because it allows me to bridge connections that support education and community development in a meaningful way.
What impact does your department have on the community?
Congo Initiative’s Advanced Studies and International Partnership Program has had a significant impact on the community. It facilitates partnerships with organizations and institutions that bring resources, expertise, and opportunities to the region. For example, our partnership with Taylor University, a small liberal arts university in Indiana, has resulted in the establishment of the Academic Friendship Summit which has directly improved access to quality education and faculty relationships. Also, through our initiatives we’ve seen students and community members become empowered to take action to benefit their communities.
How has your experience with coaching through Impact Now helped you as a leader?
Coaching through Impact Now has been instrumental in refining my leadership skills to better serve my role at Congo Initiative. The primary lesson I’ve learned from my coaching is the power of strategic communication and alignment. That has helped me to develop stronger connections with international partners and grantors. And that leads to more impactful initiatives.
I’ve also gained a deeper understanding of the importance of long-term sustainability, vision alignment, and clarity of purpose. All of that is important to ensure that our community initiatives continue to thrive and make a lasting difference.
Impact Now has also helped me develop a mindset that prioritizes resilience and courage, even in the face of external chaos. This has been instrumental in my role, especially when projects can encounter unforeseen obstacles. Impact Now’s coaching has instilled a greater sense of determination and adaptability in me as a leader.
