Impact Now—When Women Lead believes that when women lead, communities thrive. Our mission is to support women around the world as they step into leadership, because it makes a global impact. We are inspired by the many women doing amazing work all over the world. Here are three women, we think you should know about:
Srishti Bakshi confronted cultural norms and gender inequality in her country. She found a way that women could develop confidence, support themselves financially, and experience physical and psychological safety. But she had to walk 2300 miles across India to do that! She tells her story at TEDWomen 2021.
Nivine Sandouka and Dr. Yael Braudo-Baht call for peace to prevail over the cycle of violence in the Middle East. Even while they grieve the impact of the current round of violence on their friends and communities, Nivine and Yael seek a pro-peace and pro-humanity solution for everyone. These brave women persist despite challenges others deem insurmountable. Watch their interview on France 24.
Rowan White, member of the Mohawk Nation, is a farmer, seedkeeper, author, and activist for indigenous seed and food sovereignty. She is part of a seed rematriation movement led by indigenous women. Why rematriation? “When a seed is rematriated…it re-enters into a reciprocal relationship with that community.” It is not owned, as implied by the word repatriation.
Read more here and here, and listen to Rowan in this two-minute video.
These are just three women who are making an impact. Do you know a woman making an impact? We would love to collaborate with them and see them succeed and make more communities around the world thrive.
