On Thursday June 1, 2023 Sharon Currier, one of our coaches, facilitated our Roundtable, “Set and Follow Through on Goals.”
Here are just some of the nuggets from today’s discussion:
- Goals are a heart thing. They reflect desire.
- A goal is the desired result. It’s the end of the sentence, “I will…”
- Goals are the vision of a future state. They are “dreams with deadlines.”
- Goals reflect purpose.
- You need to know your purpose to set your goals.
- Doing things is good. Knowing the why behind the doing is what’s important.
- Goals the What—the future state.
- Objectives are the How—the actions to achieve that state.
- Tasks are the smaller steps, the daily or weekly pieces of objectives.
- Goals assist with prioritization.
- Goals provide motivation.
- There is a direct correlation between setting goals and achieving success.
- A SWOT analysis can help you move from the what to the how.
- Set one to three goals each week. Set one to three goals each day. Direct your attention and energy to those first. The “to-do” list will be longer. You might get to all or most of those items. But the big three will propel you forward.
- At the end of each day, look back and look ahead to note the progress toward your goal(s).
- Write down your goals. It makes a difference!
- Be accountable to someone.
- Celebrate your successes.
This list doesn’t capture all of day’s discussion. However, perhaps one or two of these nuggets will resonate with you.
